“To think is easy. To act is hard. But the hardest thing in the world is to act in accordance with your thinking.”
― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
The thing about passion and inspiration is that it’s fickle.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great thing to have – but you need to back it up with action, by doing something. Enter our friends commitment and consistency.
No matter what you want to do, you have to show up regularly. You can have all the passion in the world, but if you never convert it into motion?
Nothing gets done, you go nowhere.
Simple consistency beats all the passion in the world. No habit for apathy and lethargy and negativity can survive the traction achieved by regularly putting inspiration into doing.
The key is to know that sometimes you’ll feel passionate and inspired, many times you won’t – but you can always express your interest by showing up.
Just make a start. Do something – and then keep going, no matter how passionate you feel.
That’s not so hard. Despite what Goethe says, it’s actually incredibly simple. The problem is that this simplicity is so mis-understood that it’s very rare.
