"Beware the barrenness of a busy life."
— Socrates
"It is not enough to be busy. So are the ants. The question is: What are we busy about?"
— Henry David Thoreau

Why are you so busy, so hasty?
Why do you push so hard, so fast? Why the sole focus on getting stuff done?
You know you crash and burn, almost by clockwork. Your evenings, your weekends, where you have nothing to give to your family, to what you love; those whole weeks when you just want to burn it all down and run away.
Where is the love?
Why do you keep doing it?
Is it that you measure your worth solely by what you get done?
Is it that you’re scared and running?
Keeping the wolf from the door that you spend all your energy on reinforcing the barricade and forget to sit by the fire?
So caught up in comparing yourself to others and rushing with them, but where are you heading?
Is it towards one narrow definition of success?
And then what?
I know you want to make a difference, to look after your people, maybe you want to make a name for yourself … but what if you could have it all?
What if, by slowing down, following the love, keeping the energy stocked high, keeping your soul burning bright …
You could do a better job than the one you’re doing now … and enjoy every single moment of it?
Our culture values doing and busy-ness. But it’s a factory mentality where only quantity counts … there is precious little regard for Quality.
If you’re assembling a Model T, then crack on. Slap your widget on and go to the next thing.
However, you also need to rest. You are not a robot. Put energy in your tank, take it steady and you can go forever.
But step back and you’ll come up with more creative ways of getting the job done. Downtime is valuable, simply from an energetic and clarity/creative point of view.
Even if you are actually on an assembly line … that’s not all you are.
You are more than what you do and what you get done. If you neglect that for long enough you will suffer. Needlessly.
Time and space. The power of your soul. The power of doing what you love.
You are a multi-dimensional being. Enrich and nourish all of you. Nothing else will fulfil. And I think you already know that.
Why not take a punt?
Go beyond fear. Trust a little. Experiment what it’s like not to be driven by FOMO. Learn that your value isn’t just in what you do.
Why not act as if you could have it all?
Why not be the boss, already?
I’m not saying quit getting stuff done. But learn to infuse it with soul and love.
That’s all.
Go well!
