Those Thoughts Aren't Yours – Part 2

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,

some momentary awareness comes

As an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,

who violently sweep your house

empty of its furniture,

still treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out

for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,

meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,

because each has been sent

as a guide from beyond.

— Jalaluddin Rumi

You CAN have peace with thoughts. It's not an either/or thing. But to experience that you have to stop fighting them, you have to come to a place where you don't care about them.

Perhaps thoughts aren't personal at all? Perhaps they simply take on your flavour as they pass through your ears as they zoom around the world?

Perhaps they are weary travellers, looking for a place to sit for a moment or two? And who are you to deny them that?

Don't struggle, get curious. Don't push them out, let them be. They're not your responsibility. Assume they are anyone's but yours. You're just allowing them a place to rest before they carry on their way.

Ascension is not about having no thoughts – and you don't need to do anything with them, simply provide zero resistance to them.
