You, the miracle

“Isn’t it the very last thing we feel grateful for – having happened? You needn't have happened. But you did happen.”

— Douglas Harding

______________

And you are happening, right now. But like the man said, it’s probably something you don’t appreciate – what with all the busy-ness and striving that we get lost in.

We don’t appreciate the simple beauty and profound experience of being alive, now.

Nature is a brute. The sheer statistics of you having happened are mind-boggling. You made it! You won the lottery of life. And somehow you are still here, you are still happening, despite all the near-misses and near-disasters and actual disasters that you’ve experienced.

You are still happening.

Yet we’re so busy trying to change the past, improve the now or master the future, we skip over the central lynchpin that actually enables and nourishes any kind of quality that you can bring to all your doings. The fact that you are.

You Are.

You happened, you are happening, life is happening – and you meet life in this moment in an alive dance of Being.

All peak experiences, memorable moments, profoundly deep or spiritual experiences are a window to this immersion of You into Life. One appreciation of all that you Are, and you step through this window into true aliveness.

This is the root of all that is good. This enables you to marshal all of your skills and energy and apply them to whatever you wish.

Here you lose the ego but gain the Self. In the Self you tap into a much greater source of wisdom, intuition, creativity, compassion and clarity than the ego can ever possibly hope to possess.

Here you make a difference before you even lift a finger.

You will need to let go.

But by letting go of control, of evaluation and management and comparison and doubt – just now – into this sense of you happening and life happening now, you can finally surrender to what is.

Do it with me, now.

Let now be enough.

Surrender is such a fruitful experience; you can meet the exact need of the moment – whatever that may be (which is always different from what your ego insists it should be).

You learn the ridiculousness of OTT strain and force and control. As the great Alan Watts talked about: Why row when you can sail?

Here you are; here you already know how to sail.

It’s the secret to life with a capital L, and you already possess it. It’s already happening, it just wants you to get out the way so it can fully happen.

To sum it all up:

You’re a friggin miracle.

Appreciate that miracle.

Let that miracle happen.

Go well (an understatement to say the least).
