You get to decide … don’t let fear win

"There is no salvation in becoming adapted to a world which is crazy.”

Just because the world is doing it, doesn’t mean that it’s a good idea – or that you have to.

Faster and faster, doing and chasing, afraid we’ll miss out … That’s not really a way to live, is it?

Yet FOMO is a real problem, a subtle and devious thing because it seems so useful … right?

It means I can get so excited/nervous about missing out on the next next thing before the next thing is even here.

(It’s so much worse when I’ve had too much coffee – ha!)

And – have you noticed our technology is tightly aligned with providing you with a huge dose of FOMO?

Everything has gotten more and more instant.

If I leave a Facebook message over night, Facebook sends me reminders to get back to them ASAP, because well … they’re waiting and I’ll miss out!

Crazy … technology was supposed to give us more time, more space, more leisure,

Not driving us to feel like we have to scurry around faster and faster to secure the cheese.

It’s true – that is no way to live.

One of the most well received “homework” tasks I give people is to just do one thing at a time.

In that, you have to slow down, and do just one thing and one thing only.

If you’re with the kids, be with the kids.

If you’re chatting and eating dinner, chat and eat dinner.

If you’re walking, walk and enjoy (listening to something is alright, I reckon)

If you’re working on something, work on that one thing.

In this, you start to see how distraction absolutely removes any effectiveness or enjoyment: One of the best lessons you can learn.

It’s also well worth a try if you want to be the driver and not the driven in life.

But the main point:

FOMO… fear …

I don’t want to give way to fear – that is one of my main intentions in life.

Not the eradication of fear (that’s not the first step) but the intention to live free of fear’s influence.

This isn’t mastered by living in a cave.

I’m no sit at home and only let things come to me kind of guy – that would drive me insane.

The game is to fully get involved and experience and grow, but without giving into fear – of any kind.

That’s not a tax I’m prepared to pay.

Besides, it’s not necessary or useful.

Look,

One thing my Ascension meditation practice has given me is the realisation that I alone create the Good in my life through presence and attitude.

I can’t just let it come along on the winds of fortune, I have to learn to choose to see it – not just react to it.

I’m not prepared to let myself be controlled by anything and anyone any more.

Enjoy it all, yes, but be driven by it? No. No more puppet strings.

In this, it’s not so much what you do or how much you do, but HOW you do it.

It’s about not being defined by life, but learning to define it as you wish.

So – be free of fear, and all its aspects, big and small.

What do you do?

I think the willingness to give up the addiction to fear is crucial. Then you see your role in letting it build sooner and sooner.

The second is to be as present as you can.

Truly present. Out of your head and where your feet are, centred in your own presence.

This place is a sanctuary from all fear.

With a half-step back in awareness you’re able to see your buttons being pushed, and you have the freedom to choose not to.

The more you go there, the more it builds. It becomes like a force field to all negativity and limitation.

Truly.

Give it a go, and if you want help with how, let me know.

I can help.

PS.

21 days left!

You need a tool to get out of fear and out of your mind (in a good way).

The intention is a fine start, but we’ve gotten so addicted we need something else…

Something super simple yet powerful for shifting your attention out of your head and into the present moment.

Such tools exist, and Ascension meditation is one of them.

The last course for 2023 is in 3 weeks

10-12 November (starts 7pm Friday)

If you’re vaguely interested, take it as a sign to get in touch.

Despite countless friends telling me I should learn, that I would love it, I resisted for years. Until I didn’t and I instantly wished I learned sooner.

Here’s David with a similar experience, talking about his Ascension course (60 second video)
